Mothball Odor Problems

Mothballs are used to kill moths when storing clothing and other items in airtight storage containers. Mothballs are not intended for use outdoors, in crawl spaces, in attics, on floors or carpets, vehicles, with mattresses or furniture to keep away unwanted animals, rodents, pests, and snakes. Improper use of mothballs like any other chemical product, is not safe, and can result in odors.

One common misuse of mothballs is their placement in attics to repel squirrels and other unwanted animals. The mothballs, which are generally made of Naphthalene or Para dichlorobenzene, produce vapors that are heavier than air and can drift downward into living areas. The resulting odors can be intolerable and overexposure to the vapors can result in health hazards.

It's No Cover-up

The Smelleze® Mothball Deodorizer Pouch is a natural deodorizer that can be used to eliminate unpleasant mothball smells instead of merely masking them with fragrances. Smelleze® is negatively charged whereas mothball odors ride on positively charged particles. As a result, Smelleze® draws in mothball odors like a strong magnet. Thereafter, it traps, neutralizes, and encapsulates the odors without smelly cover-ups. The molecular structure of Smelleze® is made up of a lattice structure arranged to form a honeycomb framework of billions of interconnecting channels. This gives Smelleze® an enormous surface area that is larger than several football fields. The latter enables Smelleze® to absorb large amounts of mothball smell and work for months.

Applications

Smelleze® can be effectively used to treat any area of the home with mothball odor resulting from improper use and for products that don’t dissipate naturally and quickly. It can also be used in vehicles of any type.

Directions

For a breath of fresh air, simply remove the plastic cover, place Smelleze® pouches in the area to treated, on return air ducts or inside air ducts, and smell the difference. Use one or more pouches in an area or every 150 square feet. This deodorizer product will function most efficiently in air ducts with good air circulation. To obtain the best results, remove the mothballs, ventilate the area, and clean prior to treating with Smelleze®. For extra effectiveness, this product may be used in conjunction with Smelleze® Mothball Purpose Deodorizer Granules and Powder.

Rejuvenating, Reusing & Recycling

The Smelleze® Mothball Deodorizer Pouch may be reused repeatedly after periodically rejuvenating them. Rejuvenate the pouches weekly until a noticeable decrease in odor is detected. Thereafter, rejuvenate them every 3-4 months or when smell levels increase. To rejuvenate, simply heat the pouches in a microwave 2-4 minutes or place in direct sunlight for a day and reuse.

The number of times Smelleze® can be rejuvenated and its actual life span will depend on the odor concentrations, temperature, humidity and velocity of air flow it is exposed to. Replace the pouches every 3-4 months or when rejuvenation eventually fails to work.

As a precaution, do not rejuvenate the Smelleze® in a microwave if they have been exposed to a hazardous or toxic substance. It is better to be safe and to rejuvenate the pouch outdoors in direct sunlight where is plenty of ventilation.

Unused Smelleze® smell control media or used media that has not been exposed to hazardous substances can be recycled by removing this material from the pouch and applying to gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil and plant beds with thorough watering. It will act as a slow release fertilizer and help retain soil moisture.

Disposal

The unused Smelleze® Mothball Deodorizer Pouch is non-hazardous and environmentally safe. However, this may change if it is exposed to hazardous or toxic substances. Used Smelleze® should be disposed according to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
