Stall Odor Problems

Odor problems in animal stalls usually result from ammonia and mercaptans in urine and feces. The stench produced is discomforting to both the farm workers and animals. Over time, the odors could increase in concentration and result in serious air pollution problems. Studies with various animals including horses have shown that even low levels of ammonia are more than just a nuisance problem. It can cause airway defense mechanisms to be depressed, a higher rate of pneumonia, lower weight gains, and damage to the respiratory tract.

The Solution

Smelleze™ Stall Deodorizer Granules were specially developed to adsorb, neutralize, and encapsulate offensive urine generated ammonia odors and wetness. Smelleze™ will eliminate malodor in stalls, stables, feed lots, animal pens and trailers. This will create a healthier environment for livestock, reduce fly infestation and thrush, extend bedding life, reduce stall maintenance, and result in drier stalls. The latter is particularly advantageous to newborns and sick or injured animals that are confined to stalls.
Smelleze™ is also a superior solution to lime. It will not sting eyes and nostrils like lime and be dangerously slippery when wet. The Smelleze™ Stall Deodorizer Granules are a natural deodorizer that can be used to eliminate noxious and unpleasant urine and feces generated ammonia odors instead of merely masking them with fragrances. It works through a process of absorption, adsorption and cation exchange. Smelleze™ is negatively charged whereas odoriferous gases ride on positively charged particles. As a result, Smelleze™ draws in stall odors like a strong magnet. Thereafter, it traps, neutralizes, and encapsulates the odors without smelly cover-ups. Furthermore, it also traps cations like ammonium ions directly from urine by selective ion exchange thus reducing the generation of ammonia odors. The molecular structure of Smelleze™ is made up of a lattice structure arranged to form a honeycomb framework of billions of interconnecting channels. This gives Smelleze™ an enormous surface area that is larger than several football fields. The latter enables Smelleze™ to adsorb phenomenal amounts of stall odors.

Directions

For a breath of fresh air, simply apply Smelleze™ Stall Deodorizer Granules using the following directions:
1) Initial Use: Apply 1/2- 3 pounds /sq. ft. Smelleze™ on wet spots if bedding is in good condition. Otherwise, change bedding (see #3) first.
2) Routine Maintenance: Pick stalls and remove saturated bedding from wet spots as usual. Apply 1/2- 3 pounds /sq. ft. Smelleze™ on wet spots depending on condition and wetness and cover with dry bedding. Simply increase the application of Smelleze™ if the stalls are not regularly cleaned.
3) Bedding Changes: Cover the stall floor with 1/16-1/8" layer of Smelleze™ after the stall has been cleaned and apply bedding material.
4) Trailer Use: Cover the stall floor with 1/16-1/8" layer of Smelleze™ and apply bedding as usual. Use additional treatments of Smelleze™ on wet spots during travel if necessary.
This product may also be placed in an open top container in stalls to adsorb animal waste odors. Use at least 4 pounds for every 200 square feet.

Disposal

The unused Smelleze™ Stall Deodorizer Granules are non-hazardous and environmentally safe. When the stall is stripped, used Smelleze™ may be safely discarded with bedding in planting areas because it is 100% natural. This material may be applied to gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil, and plant beds with thorough watering. It will act as a slow release fertilizer and help retain soil moisture. If Smelleze™ is exposed to hazardous or toxic substances it should be disposed according to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
